NZACAP began in 1975 as a group of interested therapists working with children and became incorporated early in the 1980s. Currently there is a membership of 60, made up of student, graduate and full members. Training for child and adolescent psychotherapists is presently available at Masters level at the Auckland University of Technology.
The objects of this Association are to foster and advance the theory, methodology and practice of child and adolescent psychotherapy with an emphasis on the application of psychoanalytic and developmental principles in observation, formulation and treatment.
All members of this Association have been through a thorough assessment process.
