Child Psychotherapists are employed by some Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (ICAMHS), by other organisations and/or they work in private practice.
ICAMHS have fairly strict referral criteria and usually a doctor, teacher or other person working with your child will make the referral. If a referral is made, however, there is no guarantee that the assessment will recommend child psychotherapy, since this is a team decision.
